Inflation eases to 5.75% in December

“The general point to point inflation rate in December 2019 eased to 5.75 percentage point,” said Planning Minister MA Mannan on Tuesday (Jan 7), reports BSS.
He said this while briefing reporters revealing the monthly consumer price index after the day’s Ecnec meeting held at the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
The general point to point inflation rate was 6.05 percentage point in November 2019.
The planning minister said the general point to point inflation rate declined by 0.30% last month from the previous month mainly because of the availability of winter vegetables, fishes and with the good supply of rice.
“It’s good news for us and we’re again around the range of 5% (inflation rate) again,” Mannan added.
The BBS data showed that the food inflation declined to 5.88% in December from 6.41% in the previous month, while the non-food inflation rate, however, increased slightly to 5.55% last month from 5.47% in November.
In the rural areas, the general inflation rate declined to 5.76% in the last month from 6.01% in November.
The general inflation rate also declined to 5.73% in December from 6.12% in November in the urban areas.
The point-to-point national wage index witnessed an uptrend with 6.54% in December against 6.42% in November 2019.
