Petrol pump owners and workers have suspended their strike until Dec 15 after the government assured of looking into their 15-point charter of demands.

The decision was announced on Monday (Dec 2) by the Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners Association following a meeting with officials of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation.

Sajjadul Karim, president of a faction of Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners’ Association, announced the decision after the meeting.

He said that the next decision will be taken on Dec 15 after an inter-ministerial meeting in this regard.

“The discussion was very fruitful. Among their demands, BPC will deal with two or three related issues. The rest of the matters will have to be discussed in the inter-ministerial meeting,” said Syed Mehdi Hasan, the BPC director (marketing).

The associations on Nov 26 gave until Nov 30 to fulfil their 15-point demand that includes payment of 7.5% sales commission, the introduction of accident insurance of Tk500,000 for tank lorry workers, and an end to police harassment.
