Bangladesh has taken charge of the co-chair of the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG).
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Deputy Governor and Head of BB’s Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) Abu Hena Mohd Razee Hassan took the charge at the APG’s 21st annual general meeting in Kathmandu on Friday, BFIU Consultant Deb Prasad Debnath told Bangla Tribune.
Bangladesh, a founding member of APG, will work with its permanent co-chair Australia for preventing money laundering and terrorist financing in Asia Pacific region for the period of 2018- 2020.
The APG is an international organisation consisting of 41 members and a number of international and regional observers, including the United Nations, International Monetary Fund and World Bank.
It is closely affiliated with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) based in Paris, France.
The FATF is an inter-governmental body, which works to develop and promote policies, both national and international, to combat money laundering and check financing of terrorism.
