The prime minister has summoned the Bangladesh Bank governor and the National Board of Revenue chairman over the alleged adulteration of gold kept at the central bank’s vault, sources told Bangla Tribune.
People familiar with the matter said during the hour-long meeting at her official residence Ganabhaban on Thursday, Sheikh Hasina expressed her annoyance over customs report leaked in the media.
“The PM is agitated over the matter. She called in Governor Fazle Kabir and NBR chief to Ganabhaban,” said the official, asking not to be named.
NBR member Kalipad Halder represented the tax authority as Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan is now abroad.
The prime minister instructed them to solve the problem as soon as possible, added the official.
