The High Court on Thursday has granted bail to former deputy managing director of BASIC Bank Fazlus Sobhan in six cases.
He, however, will not be released from prison as the court denied bail in nine other cases.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim gave the order.
In a separate order, the court turned down bail petition of the bank’s former Gulshan branch manager Shipper Ahmed.
Advocate Khrushed Alam Khan represented the Anti-Corruption Commission.
He later told the media that the defendant applied bail petition for 15 cases but the court granted for six cases.
According to a Bangladesh Bank inquiry, nearly Tk 35 billion was disbursed as loans from the state-run specialised bank between 2009 and 2012, without any following the proper process.
In 2015, the ACC had filed the 56 cases over the scam against 156 people, including 26 BASIC Bank officials.
