Amid the tanners’ concern over the possible crisis of salt, the government has said there is no shortage across the country.
Salt is used in large-scale to perverse raw hide, mostly come from the sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha.
The Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated across Bangladesh on Wednesday (Aus 22).
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industry Corporation said "A total of 675,000 metric tonnes of salt was used between May and September this year against a demand of 135,000 metric tonnes per month."
“As of now, the country has a stock of 1.68 million metric tonnes of salt,” it reads.
Tanners, however, claimed that price of salt increased by Tk 200 per sack saying ‘nearly 200,000 tonnes of salt will be required during this Eid.”
