Mobile users experience slow net speedAmid the students demonstrations for safer road across the country, mobile users have experienced slow internet speed without any prior notice from the operators.
Slow internet speed was reported from different places of Dhaka on Saturday evening hours after clashes broke out between agitating students and Awami League activists in the city’s Jigatala.
No government order has been issued in this regard.
Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar told to Bangla Tribune that he was not aware of the situations.
“It (internet) is not a thing to shut down,” said Jabbar.
The internet regulatory body Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued no instruction on the bandwidth control.
BTRC Acting Chairman Jahirul Haque said “We received no instruction (from government) on shutting down the internet.”
“If instruction comes we will act upon,” Haque said adding, “It may happen due to technical glitch.”
Telecom industry insiders said, if net speed becomes slow users can check email but won’t be able to upload images and video, mostly in social media website.
When Bangla Tribune contacted to the top officials of the several mobile operators, they denied comment.
Several ISP (internet service provider) company owners told Bangla Tribune that they received no instruction in this regard.
