The Facebook logo is displayed on their website in an illustration photo taken in Bordeaux, France, February 1, 2017. REUTERSFacebook users across the world on Friday reported that they experienced problems using the service.
Those who tried to access the social network on their internet browsers were met with an error message, reading: “Sorry, something went wrong.
“We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”
Forty-three percent of users who complained about the problems affecting the service said they had experienced a 'total blackout', reported Daily Mail UK.
Users flooded social network Twitter to bemoan the latest outage, sharing hilarious memes and GIFs to mock the problems with the service.
About 45 minutes after it went down the social media platform said it resolved its issues and the site and app were back up and running.
Mashable quoted a Facebook spokesperson in an email, "Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble connecting to Facebook and it has since been resolved.”
The major app flop came just hours after users began reporting issues with Instagram crashing, reported the Sun.
Facebook owns Instagram, so there may be a problem with the tech giant's servers – causing problems for everyday users, it said.
Thousands of bewildered users from across North America and Europe flocked to Down Detector, a website that monitors app and website outages, to flag the issue.
