Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has ordered the shutdown of 54 web portals scrapping four news websites.
“All International Internet Gateways (IIGs) has been instructed to block the 54 websites on the allegation of spreading rumours,” BTRC spokesperson Zakir Hossain told Bangla Tribune.
According to Hossain, who is a BTRC assistant director, the instruction was issued on Monday night.
This time, the regulatory authority’s order dropped four news portals form its block list. These are Poriborton.com, Priyo.com, Risingbd.com, and Dhakatimes24.com.
Sources at IIGs said access to all 54 websites has been blocked since receiving the instruction.
On Sunday (Dec 9), the BTRC ordered the shutdown of 58 websites including the four news portals, which it revoked later.
