The much-awaited mobile number portability (MNP) service has finally been introduced following a directive from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The service has been made available at all customer care centers since Monday (Oct 1) morning.
“Operators will compete to provide quality customer services to stay relevant. Users will have complete freedom to change their operators if they are not satisfied,” said BTRC Chairman Jahurul Haque while addressing a media call.
He also mentioned that the users will have to pay a small amount to avail the MNP service.
Users who want to change their operator will need to get a new SIM card from their preferred operator for the cost of Tk 50 plus tax and SIM replacement fee.
The new SIM card will take 72 hours to be active, however, users can get it active within 24 hours by paying emergency fee.
Customers must wait 90 days if they want to switch operators again.
