A day after ruling and opposition lawmakers demanded "crossfire for rapists", BNP lawmaker Rumeen Farhana has said she fears extrajudicial killings is possibly getting legalised.
“In 2019, more than one person a day has been victim of extrajudicial killing. Extrajudicial killings is very possibly being legalised. Because we yesterday (Tuesday) saw the ruling and opposition MPs stood up for it," she told the parliament on Wednesday (Jan 15).
Rumeen said “The authoritarian government uses the strategy of frightening people and suppression of divergent views as a weapon to stay in power.
“They (government) are also using state mechanism, bribing police and administration and interfering judicial proceedings,” she added.
“In the recent report of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), we observe an illustration of the absence of justice and gross violations of human rights,” she said citing the statistics of ASK on victims of rapes, extrajudicial killings, kidnappings, torture of journalists and other crimes in 2019.
