Prioritise Bangladesh’s interest in deals with India: BNP to PM

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had a meeting with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at the Bilateral Meeting Room of the Lotte New York Palace Hotel in New York on Friday (Sept 27). FOCUS BANGLAThe BNP has called on the prime minister to remain cautious over agreeing to proposals with India, prioritising Bangladesh’s interest during her visit in November.
“Don’t agree to proposals that’s detrimental to the interest of the people,” said the party’s policymaking National Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf.
His call came during a human chain demonstration organised by Jatiyatabadi Textile Engineer’s Association of Bangladesh on Wednesday (Oct 2).
Citing the prime minister’s remark after her last visit, where she said that Bangladesh has given India enough, he said, “Don’t do any such thing that harms the interest of the people.”
On the ongoing crackdown on graft, Mosharraf said, “Today the prime minister said that the raids against corruption, extortion and casinos to avoid a situation like 1/11. Our question is why are you creating a situation for something like 1/11.”
