The councillors of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal made BNP’s acting Chairman Tarique Rahman the organisational guardian of the student body in absence of party chief Khaleda Zia.
The decision was taken at a meeting of JCD councillors of its council 2019, said a media statement on Tuesday (Sept 17) by JCD’s Dhaka Metro East Unit President Khandaker Enamul Haque Enam.
Participants of the meeting announced Tarique as their organizational guardian in absence of Chairperson Khaleda.
As the organisational guardian, Tarique can amend JCD charter, convene and adjourn council, conduct election to select leadership and take any political and organisational decision for the student body’s overhauling and its proper functioning.
The meeting thanked Tarique for dissolving the JCD committee as its tenure expired.
The meeting was held at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office with Enamul Haque Enam in the chair. JCD councilors from across the country attended the meeting.
JCD’s council was scheduled to be held on Sept 14, but a Dhaka court issued an ad interim injunction on it on Sept 12.
The court passed the order as JCD’s former assistant religious affairs secretary Md Aman Ullah Aman filed a case seeking a permanent injunction on the council.
