The BNP has formally announced its nominations for mayoral candidates in the elections to the Barishal and Rajshahi city corporations.
The party had finalised the candidates earlier, but the official announcement came on Sunday during a media call at the party chief’s Gulshan office.
BNP Joint Secretary General and its Barishal metro unit chief Mojibur Rahman Sarowar has been picked for the southern city polls.
The BNP fielded incumbent mayor and metro BNP chief Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul for the Rajshahi elections.
Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the names, before adding that the candidate for Sylhet will be finalised on Monday (Jun 25).
Asked whether the BNP plans to back its ally Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate in Sylhet, he said, “A decision in this issue is yet to be taken.”
Elections to the Rajshahi, Barishal and Sylhet city corporations are slated for Jul 30 with the deadline for filing nominations set for Jun 28 and to withdraw Jul 9.
