BNP chief Khaleda Zia has given instruction to take part in the upcoming Rajshahi, Barishal, and Sylhet City Corporation polls to be held on Jul 30.
She, however, also asked the party leaders to review the fairness of Gazipur City Corporation polls to be held on Jun 26 and consult with acting chairman Tarique Rahman to take the final decision.
The directives were given when BNP Vice Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan met her at the Nazim Uddin old jail on Wednesday afternoon.
Azam Khan told Bangla Tribune, “I met her as a lawyer. Madam said that there is no problem in taking part in the local election.”
She, however, criticised the Khulna election and the party leaders to take the decision after reviewing Gazipur election, he said.
Party high-ups including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam, Vice Chairman Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Organisation Secretary Shayma Obaed held a meeting after Azam met with Khaleda.
Khaleda Zia wants the next election to be held under the caretaker government and she asked the leaders to strengthen the movement to make her free from jail, said sources in the party.
