BNP leaders Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Abdul Awal Mintoo have been barred from flying abroad.
The immigration at the Dhaka airport has denied them to board a flight to India on Saturday (Mar 9).
“I wanted to travel to India on a two-day visit for personal reasons, but had to come back from the airport,” Roy, who sits on the policymaking National Standing Committee, told Bangla Tribune.
Mintoo, who serves as a vice-chairman of BNP, said he and Roy were supposed to take the same flight.
“Gayeshwar Chandra was travelling to Kolkata while I was supposed to go Hyderabad. But the immigration cleared none us to board the flight,” he said
A former FBCCI president, Mintoo said he had booked an 11.30pm flight to India.
“I will travel for business. I am scheduled to join a seminar in Hyderabad before flying for Sri Lanka,” he told Bangla Tribune.
The Anti-Corruption Commission is probing Mintoo over numerous allegations, including loan extortion and laundering money out of the country.
He was also arrested over allegation of corruption along with many other politicians and businessmen during the military-backed caretaker government.
