BNP`s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. File PhotoThe BNP has called ruling Awami League General Secretary and cabinet member Obaidul Quader to step down over the Chawkbazar fire that killed at least 68 people and injured dozens.
“Quit now as the government has admitted the responsibility over the (Chawakbazar fire) incident... If such tragedy would happen in any democratic country its government would have stepped down,” senior BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told a media briefing at the party headquarters on Sunday (Feb 24).
The BNP senior joint secretary general blamed the government for not taking necessary steps after the incidents.
Rizvi said, “Old Dhaka residents are living with death while the government is busy with suing and torturing (opponents).
“They (government) are amassing wealth in the name of so-called development but did not ensure inhabitable environment for people,” he said.
