Jamiat Ul Ulama chief Farid Uddin Masud. File PhotoThe Jamaat-e-Islami should come to its senses regarding its role in the 1971 war like Barrister Abdur Razzaq, said Bangladesh Jamiatul Ulama chief Farid Uddin Masud.
His remarks came on Sunday (Feb 17) in a media statement where he lauded Razzaq’s decision to step down as Jamaat’s assistant secretary general.
“Jamaat joined hands with the Pakistan forces in 1971 and led inhuman attacks on the people of this country,” reads the statement.
Jamaat not only has to apologise for what it had done during the War of Independence but also for many of its misguided religious claims, Masud added.
He said that Razzaq’s advice to the party is befitting of the current time and that “Jamaat had always walked the wrong path.”
Masud said that Jamaat’s political ideologies were always against the spirit of the Liberation War.
He called the young Jamaat activists to come back to the right path and use their power to develop Bangladesh.
