BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. File PhotoThe “midnight government” is failing to resolve the Rohingya crisis due to its weak policies, said BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

His remarks came on Saturday (Feb 16) during a media briefing at the party headquarters in Naya Paltan where he slammed the incumbent regime for “Failing to protect the sovereignty of the country.”

Rizvi termed the government as the “midnight government” due to the party’s belief that the Awami League-led massive vote snatching the night before the Dec 30 polls.

He said that the government’s weak foreign policy was responsible for Myanmar’s audacious move to show the St Martin’s Island as their own in their website.

“More than 1 million Rohingyas from Arakan were forced to flee to Bangladesh,” Rizvi said, adding that now the minorities were being run out as well.

“The Awami League regime is failing miserably to do something on the matter. Let alone protesting, Sheikh Hasina herself stands for Myanmar’s anti-Bangladesh policy.”

Rizvi claimed that Hasina spoke for Myanmar when the international community was pressuring them to resolve the ongoing Rohingya issue.

“We are supposed to sit and watch while Myanmar tries to claim a Bangladeshi territory as their own,” Rizvi lashed out saying that it was a hit on Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty.

“The issue hasn’t been represented in front of the international community with importance,” the senior BNP leader alleged.

Responding to queries on the death of three people who were killed by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Thakurgaon, he said that the border guards had filed cases against the deceased at a time when the families were mourning the loss of their loved ones.

“BGB filed cases against 272 people,” he said adding that the whole area was in a state of terror.

“It’s the BGB’s job to protect the borders but like BSF they are bent on killing Bangladeshis.”

He said that BGB, like RAB and police was steadily getting involved in illegal activities as they aided the “midnight government.”
