AL general secretary, Obaidul Qauder, told journalists on Wednesday (Jan 16) that leaders who made sacrifices for the party will get preference for the reserved seats in the parliament.Ruling Awami League (AL) will only nominate those for the reserved seats who have made contributions to the party, however, women MPs may be selected from districts which have not had a minister for a long time or, are backward compared to other districts.

But AL leaders have said that whoever becomes an MP from a reserved seat must have a positive image.

It’s believed that some who have not been in the limelight may also be selected.

AL general secretary, Obaidul Qauder, told journalists on Wednesday, “Those who made sacrifices for the party will get preference.”

Agriculture minister, Abdur Razzaq, told Bangla Tribune, “Those who have made contributions to the party will be considered for reserved seats.”

There is a rule to have one woman MP against six elected ones.

Along with other allies of the 14 party, AL has 44 reserved seats but since no other party won six seats they cannot nominate any person for the selected women seats. In the last parliament, there were 23 women MP’s selected through direct vote.
