Jatiya Oikya Front Convener and Gano Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain (second from right) attends a discussion at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity auditorium on Thursday (Jan 10) marking the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu.Describing the 11th National Election as a farce, Jatiya Oikya Front leader Dr Kamal Hossain called for a national dialogue to find ways for holding a fresh election in line with the Constitution.
“I had called the people to cast their vote early and guard the polling stations. But actually, the voting was done the night before,” he said referring to allegations of ballot stuffing.
Kamal, who leads the political party Gano Forum, made the remarks on Thursday (Jan 10) during a discussion at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity auditorium marking the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu.
On this day in 1972, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned to an independent Bangladesh via London and New Delhi on after 290 days of captivity in a Pakistani jail.
Claiming that the people, who conducted the Dec 30 national election, have exposed their “unhealthy mentality”, Kamal said people with sound mind can’t be involved in conducting such election and also accept it anyhow.
“National dialogue is a good way…. let’s sit (for dialogue) without creating any crisis. Let’s take the decision through this dialogue how to form an elected government and a parliament holding the election as per the constitution,” he said.
