Oikya Front leaders at EC with memo seeking fresh polls

Jatiya Oikya Front leaders speak  to media in Dhaka on Thursday (Jan 3)A delegation of opposition alliance Jatiya Oikya Front, led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, went to the Election Commission on Thursday (Jan 3) to submit a memorandum calling for a fresh election.
The 15-strong team includes BNP National Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, Krishak Sramik Janata League chief Kader Siddiqi, JSD President ASM Abdur Rab, Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Gano Forum’s Mostofa Mohsin Montu.
Mirza Fakhrul on Wednesday sent a letter to the EC informing it that all the Oikya Front candidates will simultaneously go to the Commission to submit a memorandum with documents of election irregularities.
In the Dec 30 parliamentary elections, BNP bagged only five seats while its alliance partner Gano Forum two.
At a meeting on Monday evening, the coalition rejected the results and decided to submit a memorandum to the Election Commission demanding a re-election.
