Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)After BNP did not declare their list of candidates on Dec 6, rumours began to swirl around the last minute decision to backtrack.
Several BNP sources say that since they do not want to displease other allies, a joint candidate list will be declared involving BNP and the Jatiya Oikya Front.
On Thursday night (Dec 6), BNP media wing member Shairul Kabir Khan, said, “The list of candidates may be declared tomorrow.”
Party sources say that BNP will have candidates in 220 seats and of the remaining 80 seats, 70 will be given to allies. The remaining ten will be in their hands.
A BNP standing committee leader said on Dec 7, Friday morning, final discussion on seat allocation will be held in a standing committee meeting.
Meanwhile, for cancelled nominations, a final decision on candidates will be taken following an appeal hearing at the election commission.
These names will therefore be declared later.
Joint General Secretary of Krishak Sramik Leage, an ally of Oikya Front, Iqbal Siddiqui, told Bangla Tribune: “A meeting will be held with allies on Friday morning and then the names of candidates will be declared in the afternoon through a press conference.”
