Obaidul Quader. FILE PHOTOThe ruling Awami League (AL) has hinted at sharing of parliamentary seats among the partners of AL-led 14-party Alliance in the 11th Parliamentary Election.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader came up with the development at a media call on Sunday (Nov 11) after a meeting of the party’s parliamentary board at its Dhanmondi office with AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Quader said, “Discussion is going on in this regard. Initially, we will give the nomination to our party aspirants. If seats are shared, we will withdraw our candidates. Nomination paper withdrawal letters will be kept ready.
“Informal talks with Jatiya Party on sharing seats are under way,” he said.
Quader said, “The 14-party will contest in the polls with the symbol ‘boat’ while Jatiya Party will take part in the race with ‘Plough’ symbol.”
The senior AL leader, however, informed that ‘boat’ symbol will remain limited to the 14-party alliance and hinted at expanding the alliance.
“The Jukta Front led by Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury may join the 14-party Alliance, said Quader, who is the road and transport minister.
