All of the BNP’s allies in the Jatiya Oikya Front, except for Kamal Hossain’s Gano Forum, will be contesting the upcoming election with BNP’s polls symbol ‘sheaf of paddy’ along with their own symbols.
In their letters to the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday, ASM Rab’s Jatiya Samajtanrik Dal (JSD) and Kader Siddique’s Krishak Sramik Janata League said their candidates may use BNP’s symbol or the party’s symbol in the general election.
Mahmudur Rahman Manna-led Nagorik Oikya is exempted from informing the EC as it’s not a registered political party. However, its senior leaders said that their candidates are ‘most likely’ to contest with BNP’s sheaf of paddy.
Gano Forum, the party led by Kamal Hossain who is the chief of the Oikya Front, has informed the EC that its candidate will run in the election with the party’s symbol ‘rising sun’.
“We will go for our own symbol,” the party’s Information and Media Affairs Secretary Rafiqul Islam told Bangla Tribune.
