Kotowali Police OC Mohammad Selom Mia informed BNP leaders of its decision over phone on Thursday, said Sylhet BNP General Secretary Ali Ahmed.
On Wednedsay (Oct 17), a five-member BNP delegation met Sylhet Metro Police Commissioner Golam Kibria and filed an application seeking permission to hold the rally.
Oikyo Front leaders are discussing to decide their future steps, added Ahmed.
Sylhet Metro Police Deputy Commissioner (Media) Abdul Wahab said, police did not give clearance for the rally on grounds of “public interest”.
However, on Wednesday night, BNP chief’s media wing spokesperson Shairul Kabir Khan told media that the new anti-government alliance secured permission to hold rally in Sylhet.
