Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed. FILE PHOTOSenior Awami League leader Tofail Ahmed has said that the BNP has demeaned Bangladeshi politicians for what he said whining to a low-ranking UN official.
“It’s insulting for Bangladeshi politicians to have meeting with an UN assistant secretary-general, who can be described as a desk officer. Because you (Mirza Fakhrul) are the BNP’s secretary general and served as a minister,” Tofail said on Sunday (Sept 16).
On Sept 13, Mirza Fakhrul met with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenča at the UN headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul brought allegations of supersession and oppression against the ruling party.
Speaking to the media on Sunday to brief on attending the World Economic Forum on ASEAN in Vietnam, Tofail said, “You (BNP) can complain anywhere in the world but the election will be held as per the Constitution.
“Take part in the (upcoming) election, don’t demean us (the politicians)... Bangladesh is now a model for the world,” said the minister.
