BNP claims AL plotting to shut it out from polls

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. FILE PHOTOBNP has claimed its arch-rival Awami League is conspiring to keep it out of the the next parliamentary election.
“In fact, Awami League doesn’t want the BNP to participate in polls. So, they are creating obstacles,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam said on Sunday (Aug 19).
Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to the party founder late president Ziaur Rahman, Mirza Fakhrul said, “We will free (BNP chief) Khaleda Zia and we are determined to form a people’s government through election.”
Replying to a query, the senior BNP leader claimed that AL is hatching a conspiracy to create chaos and to disrupt democracy.
Problems have to be solved through talks, Mirza Fakhrul said before adding, “AL acts in a way so, BNP can never come to hold a dialogue.”
