Jabale Noor buses. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has seized six buses operated by transport company Jabale Noor for plying on Dhaka streets even after its route permit was cancelled.
RAB’s legal and media wing chief Mufti Mahmud Khan told Bangla Tribune that the buses were held from different parts of the city by units of RAB- 1 and 4.
It was buses of Jabale Noor company which engaged in reckless driving to pick up passengers at a bus stop on the Airport Road on Jul 29, when one of them ploughed into a group of school and college students killing two on the spot and injuring several others.
Students took to the streets the same day demanding justice and safer roads, which continued for more than a week.
The protests, which brought capital Dhaka to its knees, spread across the country. Amid the demonstrations, on Aug 1, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) cancelled registrations of the buses involved in the incident as well Jabale Noor’s route permit.
