A general view of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU)Health Ministry has ordered the mandatory usage of biometric machines to ensure the attendance of doctors, nurses and officials at the government hospitals. But even after nine months have elapsed, the bio-metric machine was not placed as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

There is an accusation that several doctors of the university are neglecting their duties and carrying out private practice.
Several doctors say that to ensure the attendance of doctors who avoid duty, biometric machines need to be placed.
There is an accusation that medical officers of ophthalmology of BSMMU, Dr Mohammad Chowdhury Anwar, is usually found at the Advanced Digital Diagnostic Centre during working hours.
When the news spread on social media, the university administration began an investigation against him. Chairman of ophthalmology, Dr Sharfuddin, told Bangla Tribune: “After getting complaints against Dr Mohammad Chowdhury, we formed a probe committee against him and a report will be submitted in two weeks.”
But the common complaint is that at BSMMU, the number of doctors is more than the number of patients and many doctors shirk their duties.
A doctor says though the BSMMU is autonomous, the salary, bonus, user fee are as per government rules and so, there has to be a biometric machine.
VC of BSMMU, Dr Kanak Kanti Barua, said: “We formed a probe committee led by hospital director brigadier AK Maububul Huq; once a report comes and his misconduct proved, steps will be taken.”
“We do not have a biometric machine but there is an attendance book at every department,” added the VC.
