Modern fire detection and extinguishing equipment have been placed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Fire-fighting manpower has also been increased.

But despite such elaborate arrangements, the airport is faced with fire risks. One of the reasons for the risks is unprotected electric cables and reckless dumping of flammable materials.
Deputy director of fire service and civil defence, Debashis Bardhan, says: “the power connections need to be cleaned regularly. On 8 April 2019, a fire broke out on the third-floor storeroom and in 2017, the Air India office had a fire breakout.
Airport sources say that following several rounds of fire, fire extinguishing system has been raised at the airport with smoke and fire detectors placed at several spots.
In addition, manpower has been raised. It’s believed that the office zones of the airlines’ are the most untidy. Wires are lose while things are left unattended.
Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, CAAB, air vice marshal Md. Mofidur Rahman, said: “certain areas of the airport are old and the wires are often tangled but to change everything will impede operations. But we have undertaken some work and are carrying out external wiring work.”
Once the work for the third terminal is over, the renovation of the old one will begin, he added, saying that piles of dumped items will soon be removed.
