Biman faces lingering cabin crew crisis

A general view of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ aircraft.Biman Bangladesh Airlines has 16 air crafts in its fleet and five new planes will be added next year. New routes will also be added though the number of crew has not increased which is hampering the quality of in flight service.
Recently, several passengers complained about in flight service; they appreciated the punctuality and the catering but felt that the crew were not devoted enough to their duties.
A worker from the Middle-east says that flight crew treat expatriate workers with a condescending attitude.
At present, there are 427 cabin crew but the required number is 600. Many crew members say that they are always under pressure because of being short staffed which hampers service.
'Often we have to support the pilot and cannot attend to the passengers,' say crew members.
Recently, overweight crew members were dropped from the flights after their medical tests but were taken back due to staff scarcity.
Secretary of Tourism and Civil aviation, Md Mohibul Huq, said: “Biman has a crew crisis but this cannot be solved in a day. There are 200 empty posts and recently, 78 persons were given appointment and they are undergoing a four month training period. We will appoint more crew in stages.”
