Six lost lives as dengue spreading fast in Capital

Patients at Dhaka Medical College Hospital suffering ‘Dengu’ fever on Saturday (July 21).A dengue outbreak caused death of at least six persons in the last two months in Dhaka.
Official of the National Health Crisis Management Centre of the Health Directorate Abdur Rahim told Bangla Tribune, “A total of 364 dengue patients have admitted to different hospital till Jul 20.”
We have recorded three deaths each in June and July this year, he added.
“There is a growing trend of dengue patients admitted to the hospitals since June this year,” he said adding this year, a total of 709 patients admitted to the hospitals.
Aedes mosquitoes are responsible for spreading dengue and chikungunya.
The Health Directorate has identified 19 localities which are seriously affected by dengue and chikungunya mosquitoes.
The areas are Banani, Bashundhara residential area, Gabtoli, Moghbazar, a part of Malibagh, Mirpur-1, Mohakhali DOHS, Nakhalpara, East Sheorapara, Tolarbagh, Uttara sector 9, Dhanmondi, Elephant Road, Gulbagh, Lalabagan, Meradia, Mintoo Road, Baily Road and Shantinagar.
Meanwhile, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research has issued a public warning that due to heavy rain Aedes mosquitoes-borne diseases might spread.
According to a survey conducted by Dhaka City Corporation South has revealed that Aedes mosquito larvae are found in about 70 percent of the household in the city.
