As many as 653 women and children were tormented, abused and raped through Jul 1 to Sep 30 across Bangladesh, says a rights body.
Of the incidents, 55 percent are rape case, said ‘Amrai Pari Paribarik Nirjaton Protirodh Jot’ in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 23).
The report was prepared after compiling news published in six different dailies.
According to the report, among the victims 22 percent were children aged between seven to 18 years in the stipulated time.
Apart from rape, 147 murders were reported during this period with 17 incidents of suicides, 46 sexual assaults, 18 child marriages, 23 domestic violence, 5 child tormenting, 1 acid attack, 14 abductions and 24 other forms of abuses.
Calling for women empowerment, the rights body demanded harsh punishment and speedy trial over these incidents.
