DACSU VP Nur and his lawyer

Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Vice-President (VP) Nurul Haque Nur has claimed that the government is barring him from travelling aboard.
“A citizen has a right to obtain a passport. But the authorities are delaying to issue of my passport in a bid to restrict me from travelling outside the country”, he said.
The student leader was speaking to media after the High Court on Sunday (Oct 20)adjourned the hearing on his petition over the matteruntil the first week of January next year.
Earlier in the day, the bench headed by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam heard the writ which the DUCSU VP filed on Aug 1 this yearchallenging the delay of issuing his passport.
Mentioning the incidents of the attacks by Chhatra League on the campus, Nur said, “No trial takes placeover these incidents.
“Government wants to bar me from travelling aboard so that I can’t communicate with the foreign universities,” he added.
Nur said, “I need my passport now, but the court hearing will be in January. Which means I will get a passport at the end of my term as the VP.
“The passport office is delaying for long. So, it is obvious that judiciary is not independent,” he alleged.
