Abrar murder: Two suspects on 5-day remand

The accused placed on remand are Amit Saha and and Hosssain Mohhammad Toha. Police have been given five days to quiz two suspected killers of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharafuzzaman Ansary passed the order on Friday (Oct 11), after Detective Branch (DB) of Police Inspector Muhammad Wahidud Zaman, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court with a plea of 10-day remand for each.
The accused placed on remand are Amit Saha and Hossain Mohammad Toha.
The court has also received the first information report (FIR) of the murder case, and ordered police to report the update on Nov 13.
Amit Saha is a student of civil engineering department while Toha studies in the mechanical engineering department of BUET.
On Tuesday (Oct 10), another Dhaka court also placed 10 accused on five-day remand each.
Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university, was beaten to death on Oct 7.
Some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders have been accused of beating him for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Following the incident, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people with Chawkbazar police.
The BCL also expelled 11 of its members permanently from the organization for their alleged involvement in the murder.
The killing of Abrar sparked protest across the country with protesters demanding justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
As of Friday, as many as 17 people have been arrested in connection to the murder.
