Hindus bid an emotional farewell to the godess on the last day of the five-day festivities that began on Sept 18 with Mahalaya.

PHOTO: Bangla Tribune/Sazzad HossainThe ‘Bijoya Dashami’ celebrations started with the ‘Bisharjan Puja’ on Tuesday morning and the immersion of the idols was preceded by rallies with the idols of Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartik and Ganesh.
The rallies in Dhaka were vibrant with the singing and dancing of people and married female devotees playing with vermillion before the immersion of Durga in River Buriganga.

PHOTO: Bangla Tribune/Sazzad Hossain“We feel satisfied to be able to say goodbye to Mother [Durga] without any problems,” said Sree Krishna who went to immerse the idol from Dhanmondi.
As many as 31, 767 puja mandaps were set up across the country with organizers saying that the rituals were completed without any untoward situation due to the strengthened security.
