A petition filed with the High Court challenges the appointment of Professor Fougia Rezwan as the principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College.
Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond submitted the petition on Monday (Sept 16) seeking a freeze on the appointment, which was announced the previous day.
The petition argues that the governing body of Viqarunnisa is the authority to appoint its principal whereas the government has authority to appoint the teachers.
It sought a a rule asking the government and Fougia to explain why the appointment should not be declared illegal.
In 2018, principal Nazneen Ferdous and two other teachers of the institution were removed over the suicide of Aritree Adhikari, a student of the school.
Later, the school’s governing body appointed its assistant professor Hasina Begum as the acting principal.
