Patients and relatives at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases have complained about garbage in the hospital’s toilet and the floor.
They say the space between two buildings is filled with discarded plastic, food and medical waste, which is not cleaned regularly and thus vitiates the environment.
In addition, there is also a scarcity of required equipment at the hospitals. Hospital authority has said that due to scarcity of manpower, patients are facing problems.
Hospital authority also added that since the hospital has to admit excess patients, there is an additional pressure with dearth of trained doctors and nurses.
Relative of a patient says: “I cannot accept that hospital toilets are so dirty.”
It’s believed that at the 434-bed hospital, 900-1000 patients are being admitted and therefore, patients are often accommodated on the floor and the corridors.
Hospital authority says that since the appointment of third and fourth-grade workers has been suspended since 2005, the operation is being hampered.
Of the 82 posts for assistant and associate professors, 54 are filled while 28 are vacant. Meanwhile, 48 are working as OSD.
Against 215 posts in Anesthetic department, cardiology surgery, vascular surgery, 190 are filled.
Pathology, microbiology, physical medicine departments are suffering, and while physical medicine is an important department, this hospital reportedly does not have enough equipment or doctors.
Hospital ward master, says: “there is a manpower crisis which has resulted in so much squalor around the hospital.”
Director of the hospital, Dr Afzalur Rahman, says: “We now have 332 doctors and a few days ago, enough nurses were given appointment; once they are appointed we will not have manpower crisis anymore.”
