A Dhaka court on Jul 31 will hear the bail petitions of BNP chief Khaleda Zia, who is accused in two cases on making derogatory remarks about trials of war criminals and celebrating fake birthday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge KM Imrul Kayes fixed the date on Wednesday after the submission of the bail petitions by Khaleda’s lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukder.
Talukder said, “We filed the petitions with the Dhaka CMM court, but was rejected on Jul 5.”
Today (Jul 11), we have placed the bail appeals with Dhaka Metropolitan Session Court, the lawyer added.
AB Siddique, President of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, a pro-Awami League organisation, lodged a case on Nov 3, 2016 with a Dhaka court against Khaleda, accusing her of making derogatory remarks about the war crime tribunals. The court, subsequently, issued an arrest warrant one year later.
Another case was filed on Aug 30, 2016, by Gazi Zahirul Islam, former joint general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists, accusing Khaleda of celebrating “fake birthday”.
The court issued an arrest warrant on Nov 17 in the same year.
