Physician’s son dies of dengue in Dhaka

Dhaka Shishu HospitalThe minor son of a government doctor has died of the mosquito-borne dengue fever at a state‑sponsored hospital in Dhaka.

Four-year old Raj Chowdhury, son of Dr Nirmal Kanti Chowdhury, Assistant Registrar of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), died at Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital on Thursday (Aug 15).   

Medical officer at NICVD Pijsh Biswas told Bangla Tribune that the boy was admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, four days after he become ill with the fever.

The small boy was later shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of Dhaka Shishu Hospital on Tuesday (Aug 13) when his condition deteriorated, the doctor added.

He died there of dengue shock syndrome on Thursday afternoon, he said.

A total of five dengue deaths have so far been reported at the Shishu Hospital.
