Customs detectives have arrested a foreigner at Shahjalal International Airport with 5 kg 487 grams of gold.
DC of customs intelligence, Maruf Hossain, said: “the Malaysian citizen of Chinese descent, Lui Kun Hong, 33, was arrested at 1am on Saturday.”
The captured gold is worth Tk. 2 crore 74 lakh, he added.
The arrested came to Dhaka on a flight from Malaysia.
He tried to leave the airport by the green channel when customs detained him and found gold bars in his shoes.
Maruf Hossain further said that they had received information beforehand of gold trafficking.
Measures have been taken regarding the carrier and the recovered gold under the existing customs laws and regulations.
