More madrasas under government scanner

With the latest order, the figure of the suspended madrasa stands at 298The government has suspended the primary study permission and cancelled the academic recognition of another 96 madrasa in 37 districts across the country.
Operation of these religious institutions was suspended on gourd of having inadequate infrastructural facilities and teachers as well as performing zero pass rates in public examinations.
The suspension came after the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board (BMEB) served show caused notices to these institutions recently.
With the latest order, the figure of the suspended madrasa stands at 298. Earlier on May 31, the Board ordered to suspend 202 madrasas in 40 districts.
The BMEB asked the authorities of these 96 institutions to respond to the show cause with 21 working days through their local Upazila administration chiefs (UNOs).
Asked on the Madrasahs those enjoy the government’s MPO (monthly pay-order) facility, Technical and Madrasah Education Division Additional Sectaries Rownak Mahmud said, “The Ministry of Education will decide the fate of the MPO-listed institutions while the Board will decide on the non-MPO institutions.”
