Twenty-five-year-old Rokana Akter gives birth on the night of Jun 18 inside a toilet of the Kamalapur Railway StationPolice have detained the husband of the Indian woman, who gave birth to a boy at a railway station in Dhaka.
Twenty-five-year-old Rokana Akter gave birth on the night of Jun 18 inside a toilet of the Kamalapur Railway Station.
She was taken to the nearby Mugda hospital before being transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and remained there since then.
Roksana’s husband Abdul Haque, a Bangladeshi citizen, was a furniture trader in India, police said then.
Kamalapur railway police OC Yasin Faruk told Bangla Tribune that Abdul was detained from the DMCH on Saturday.
Abdul, who hails from Chandpur, had gone to India in 2012, said the police officer. “His first wife also went with him. Later, Abdul married Roksana upon the first wife’s consent.”
OC Faruk said that Abdul entered Bangladesh on Jun 2 through the border with Jessore’s Benapole. “They came to Dhaka and were staying at the Azimpur home of Adbul’s sister. On Jun 18, Abdul and Roksana boarded a train for Narayanganj.”
But the train left with Roksana as Abdul went to buy some water, he added. “Roksana, however, managed to return Dhaka.”
OC Faruk said they were questioning Abdul to verify whether his account was true.
Roksana, who is being treated at the DMCH, says she got married to Abdul about a year and half ago and that she has come to Bangladesh to live with Abdul.
OC Faruk, however, says Roksana has travelled without any documents. “As far as we came to know, she has no passport and we are initiating legal procedures. The court will decide.”
