As many as 52 people died in road accidents on Saturday (Jun 23) alone on the way back to their workplace after Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, says a passenger welfare body.
The Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJSK), a passengers’ rights forum, said that 150 others sustained injuries in road accidents across the country until on Saturday noon.
The BJSK demanded for introducing emergency monitoring system and compensation to the road crash victims.
BJKS Secretary General Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said, “Activities of the authorities concerned were seen before the Eid, which discontinued after the Eid results the sharp rise in road accidents.”
“If the authorities continued their operation at the same pace ahead and after the Eid, rise of the death toll might be stopped,” Chowdhury argued.
