Siblings die in Buriganga boat capsize

Rescue operation going on by Fire Service, police, and coast guards, along with locals as boat capsizes at Sadarghat on Friday, June 21, 2019. Dhaka TribuneTwo children—brother and sister— have died in boat capsized on the Buriganga river, at Sadarghat.

Due to a boat capsize when a launch hit an indigenous boat, a pair of siblings went missing. The passenger carrying boat sank when it was hit by launch, Pubali-5 at 7 am in the morning on Friday (Jun 21).

There were five passengers including children. Though three persons swam ashore, the children drowned.

Twelve-year-old Meshkat’s body was found around 11:50am and five-year-old Nusrat’s was found around 12.10pm; after combined efforts of the Fire Service, police, coast guard, and locals.

Fire Service Headquarters Station Officer Rahedul Rahman confirmed.

They were returning to Dhaka with their family.
Coast Guard (media wing) official Miraj Ahmed said that among the rescued are- Babul Farazi, 42, Shamima Mridha, 30, and a six-month-old child.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Mitford Hospital, the Fire Service official said.
