Bus operators must pay 5m in compensation for Rajib: HC

Rajib Hossain, who had lost an arm in a race between two buses in Dhaka on Apr 3, died of the severe head injuries sustained in the accident on Apr 17.The High Court has said both BRTC and Sajan Paribahan are responsible for the death of Rajib Hossain, who died after losing his hand in a bus accident in Dhaka on Apr 3, 2018.

The High Court has said the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Sajan Paribahan must pay Tk2.5 million each as compensation to the family of Rajib Hossain.

The court found both BRTC and Sajan Paribahan responsible for Rajib’s death.

On May 8, the Court ordered the bus companies to pay Tk10 million to Rajib's family as compensation. BRTC and Sajan Paribahan challenged the order.

The bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam gave the verdict on Thursday (Jun 20).

Rajib, a Govt Titumir College student, died in a hospital on Apr 17, 2018, after his right forearm was severed as a Sajan bus company vehicle, in a bid to overtake, sideswiped a BRTC Double-decker he was riding.
