Road crashes leave 7 dead in 4 districts

Representational imageAt least seven people were killed in road accidents in four districts on Tuesday.
In Chandpur, three people were killed in separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Comilla Highway.
Two people died and three others were injured when a bus collided head-on with a CNG auto-rickshaw in the vicinity of Sengaon Bottola on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as, Imran Hossain, 34, and his niece Fatema Akter, 10.
Sub-Inspector of Chandpur Model police station, Rejaul Karim, said: "When we arrived we found one dead and four injured. We took them to Chandpur Government General Hospital. As Fatema’s condition worsened, she was transferred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). She died on the way.
"After the incident we seized the vehicles but the bus driver fled the scene. We are trying to arrest him."
A woman was killed when a pick-up van ran her over in Mandari Shah-Mokdumpur on Tuesday morning. The deceased, Jharna Begum, 29, was from Muniyarpara in Hajiganj of the district.
Officer-in-Charge of Chandpur Model police station, Nasim Uddin, confirmed the death.
In Dhaka, a man was killed in a road accident in front of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday morning.
The deceased, Aaqib Reja, 23, from Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia, was a second year student of University of Liberal Arts (ULAB).
According to family members, Aaqib was on his way to Kallyanpur Bus station to collect his travel bag which he forgot to pick-up earlier in the morning. On his way, his motorcycle was run over by a truck and he died on the spot.
Kushtia Daulatpur police station OC Azam Khan confirmed the death.
In Dinajpur, two women were killed in a road accident at Vaduria Bazar on the Dinajpur-Gobindganj Highway in Nawabganj upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Amena Begum, 67, and her daughter-in-law
Shahida Begum, 55, of Bagunbari village of Ghoraghat upazila, reports BSS.
Police said the accident occurred when a speeding truck crushed Amena and Shahida under its wheels in the area around 11 am when the driver lost control of the steering wheel, leaving them dead on the spot.
Locals seized the truck and a case was filed in this connection.
In Meherpur, the driver’s assistant of a Shyamoli Paribahan bus was killed when the vehicle lost control and crashed into a roadside tree near the Bashbaria fuel pump on the Meherpur-Kushtia road on Tuesday.
Gangni police station OC Harendranath Sarkar said: “Trying to avoid colliding into a motorcycle the vehicle crashed, which killed its helper, Shahin. None of the passengers were harmed.”
