The Indian foreign ministry black listed Bangladeshi film actor Ferdous for taking part during the Loksabha election hustings. In this issue, Mamata Banerjee has said: “During votes, we had a friend over from Bangladesh and he stood by the road during a Trinamool procession. And then, his visa was cancelled. This is absurd.”
There is no logic for cancelling the visa, she observed during a press conference in Kolkata, held on 10 June, Monday.
During the voting procession of Trnamool candidate Kanailal Agarwal, Ferdous also took part and the photo of him with political activists became viral.
After the incident, Ferdous returned to the country and gave a statement of apology; at that time, BJP claimed that Ferdous cannot take part in voting campaign while in India on tourist visa.
At that time Agarwal said: “I carry my campaign on the power of my own organisation and do not need the help of any film star.”
“Also keep in mind, infiltration to India is also done by non-Muslims,” said Agarwal.
After the visa cancellation, shooting of several films of Ferdous in India are facing uncertainty. Many in Tollygunge cinema area feel that to ensure that Ferdous’s visa is reinstated, Mamata is willing to take on the central government.
