Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. File PhotoThe weather caused many disruptions including many flights being either grounded or rerouted, with passengers of Biman's Sylhet bound flight vandalizing the domestic terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The incident took place around 10am on Sunday (Jun 2).
Two Biman flights (BG-405 and BG-406) were cancelled on Sunday that was bound for Syhlet. Six other flights were delayed for Saiudpur and Jashore.
Airport Armed Police Battalion's Duty Officer Tanvir said, “BG-601 of Bangladesh Biman was scheduled to fly from Dhaka to Sylhet at 4:30pm but because it was rescheduled, passengers got frustrated and started vandalizing the domestic terminal."
A passenger who was present said, the flight was rescheduled from Dhaka to Sylhet at three times at 9:30am, 10:30am and later at 3:00pm. "People got angry and began to break things when the last reschedule was announced," he added.
General Manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Shakil Meraj said: "The flights were rescheduled because of turbulent weather and people's safety is first priority. It was not right of passengers to vandalize the airport."
